  • £20m Pride of Place Funding coming to Heath Ward area

We are delighted to share that the Heath ward area has been selected to benefit from £20 million of investment over the next 10 years as part of the Government’s Pride in Place funding.

This significant investment will provide £2 million per year to support improvements across the area starting from Frizlands Lane and Central Park, helping to deliver long-term improvements for residents.

We have been working closely with partners such as the local MP – Margaret Mullane and making the case for investment into our community, and this announcement is a major step forward. It represents a real opportunity to secure meaningful improvements and ensure our area receives the attention and funding it deserves.

While details on how the funding will be used will be developed over time, residents will be pleased to know that they are at the heart of the process – with a residents panel deciding where the money is spent.

We will keep you updated as plans progress and encourage residents to get involved as opportunities for engagement arise.

  • Campaign Win on road resurfacing

We are pleased to share a positive update following concerns raised by residents about the condition of local roads.

After listening to residents and raising these issues with council officers, we have successfully secured funding through our ward budget to deliver road resurfacing works at Marston Close. This is a clear example of how resident feedback can lead to direct Improvement in our community.

In addition, we have been actively raising the condition of Rainham Road North, a key primary route through the area, alongside the local MP. Given its high levels of traffic and importance to the wider network such as serving the 103 bus, we have been working with the Council to ensure that necessary resurfacing works are prioritised, they will take place in Mid-late April.

We know how important well-maintained roads are for safety, accessibility, and the overall quality of the local environment.

  • Royal Visit

The Borough were delighted to welcome Their Majesties, King Charles III and Queen Camilla, to Barking and Dagenham for a special visit to the borough.

The visit was a proud moment for our community, showcasing the strength, diversity, and achievements of our residents. Their Majesties met with local people, community groups, and organisations, highlighting the fantastic work taking place across the borough including visits to Barking and Dagenham College, Eastbrook Studios and Barking Town Centre.

It was a wonderful opportunity to put Barking and Dagenham on the map and celebrate all that makes our borough unique. We know many residents were excited to see the visit and be part of this historic occasion – we were there outside the Town Hall – a very special moment!

  • Apply for a Postal Vote

    Apply for a Postal Vote

Labour volunteer teams have been out across the ward extensively over the last few week listening to residents. A number of residents have asked about applying for postal votes for the elections in May.

Voting by post is the safest and easiest way to make sure your vote counts. The quickest and easiest way setup postal voting is by applying online via the Government’s website here.

You can also download, print out and fill in a paper postal vote application form. This should then be sent to your local Electoral Registration Office.

Electoral Registration Officer, Ground Floor North, Town Hall, Barking, 1 Town Square, IG11 7LU

Your Labour Community Team can help with lots of things, but unfortunately we can’t help you complete or return these forms. Do ask a friend or neighbour if you need help.

  • Addressing parking concerns for residents of Saddler House and Mason Apartments

We have been working with residents of Saddler House and Mason Apartments to address ongoing concerns around parking across the development.

Following issues raised, we organised a site visit bringing together residents, the Head of Parking, and the Cabinet Member for Enforcement, alongside your local ward councillors. This was an important opportunity to review the situation on the ground, particularly given the mix of parking arrangements across the development and the challenges this creates for residents.

During the visit, residents were able to directly raise their concerns, including issues around availability of spaces, unauthorised parking, and the need for clearer and more consistent enforcement. Officers were able to assess these issues firsthand and discuss potential solutions.

As a result, further work is now underway to develop a package of measures to better support residents and improve parking management in the area. As your ward councillors, we are fully supportive of this work and will continue to push for practical improvements that reflect residents’ concerns.

We will keep residents updated as proposals are developed and next steps are agreed.

  • Local Improvements

We are continuing to work towards improving our ward with your needs in mind. We are still waiting for the delivery and installation of new bins across the ward.

Bull Lane and Oxlow Lane Potholes / Road Surface
Ward Councillors have raised concerns regarding the current state of road surface’s on Oxlow Lane near the Eastbrook Junction and on Bull Lane. Both locations are due to be surveyed by the Council’s highways department.

    Street Lighting
We have been conducting walkabouts in the evenings in the Winter, checking street lighting is on and in working order. Defects were reported on Trefgarne Road and on Stansgate Road.

    Three Travellers Pavement

We are aware of the broken slabs outside the Three Travellers Pub which have raised several times to the Council. The original scheme was not built to a suitable specification for its usage and was only built to a typical footway standard, for light pedestrian usage, yet its usage provides vehicle access, including the pubs essential deliveries which has simply caused the location to wear over time. Highways teams have confirmed that works are being programmed for delivery asap, and a long term solution is being looked into.

Bull Lane and Sparrow Green Road Drainage

The Ward Councillors met with residents on Bull Lane, Tannery Close and Sparrow Green regarding drainage issues, we have liased with teams at the Council who have agreed to jet and clear these locations after a build up of debris.

    Wood Lane Cycle Lane

We have raised concerns regarding the cycle path on Wood Lane, which residents of the new builds have to pass to access the footpath – we are awaiting a response on this matter.

Thank you to all of those who came to the shared surgery In November with Margaret Mullane MP, Heath Councillors and local police teams to hear to your concerns and feedback – if you attended the event and still have outstanding casework, please do get in touch.

We have also been out door-knocking across the ward to hear directly from residents. We spoke with you and your neighbours about local priorities, concerns, and the improvements you’d like to see.

These conversations help shape our work in our community — and we’ll be knocking on your door soon if you haven’t heard from us yet.

If you didn’t catch us this time, you can always get in touch via email or telephone to share your views.

    Heathway Cenotaph

Your Heath Ward Councillors were at the Dagenham Heathway Cenotaph this morning laying one of our three wreaths this year to remember those who serve and have served to defend our values and protect our freedoms.

A special thank you to the children and staff of William Bellamy Primary School in Heath Ward for creating one of our beautiful wreaths — a wonderful reminder of how the next generation continues to honour and uphold the spirit of remembrance.

    Lest we Forget.

Speeding Concerns: Frizlands Lane, Rusholme Ave and Oxlow Lane

Speeding remains a serious concern in our community. We have listened to your concerns and have asked the Council to consider a 20mph restriction on Frizlands Lane and Oxlow Lane after this was raised to us. We have also asked for the Police to conduct a Community Speed Watch on another road in the ward. We encourage all residents to stay vigilant and report unsafe driving — together we can make our streets safer.

Rainham Road North is a key route for our community and a primary bus corridor, serving the 103 bus route. • VE Day 80 Celebration

    VE Day 80 Celebration

On Wednesday 8th May, your Heath Ward Labour councillors marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a pop-up stall offering colouring, sandwiches, cakes and cuppas to residents passing by on their way home.

While it wasn’t a formal event, we felt it was important to create space in the community to pause, reflect and remember the courage and sacrifice of all those who fought for peace and freedom during the Second World War. VE Day (Victory in Europe Day) marks the day in 1945 when fighting came to an end in Europe — a moment of huge historical and emotional significance.

It was lovely to see so many of you stop by, in honour of the day.

As councillors, we’re proud to represent a community that values history, solidarity, and the small moments that bring people together. Thank you to everyone who joined us — whether for five minutes or a full conversation — and helped mark eight decades since the end of war in Europe.

Over three weeks in May, the operation included:

    • Visible Police Patrols and Community Meet & Greets
